Introduction
Bactofight DS Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Bactofight DS Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Bactofight DS Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Bactofight DS Oral Suspension until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Bactofight DS Oral Suspension to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be taken simultaneously with Bactofight DS Oral Suspension?
Bactofight DS Oral Suspension may interact with other medications or substances. It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medication they are taking before starting Bactofight DS Oral Suspension. Always consult a medical professional regarding administering any medicine to your child.
Can I vaccinate my child while on treatment with Bactofight DS Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics do not typically interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received a vaccine. However, it is recommended to avoid vaccination until your child recovers from the underlying illness before administering any medications.
Which laboratory tests may be required for long-term Bactofight DS Oral Suspension use?
Periodically, your child's doctor may order kidney and liver function tests to monitor their condition during prolonged therapy with Bactofight DS Oral Suspension.
Can I give a higher dose of Bactofight DS Oral Suspension to my child than the recommended dosage?
Providing a higher than recommended dosage of this medication may increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences symptoms that worsen, it is important to consult your child's doctor for re-evaluation.
Should I stop giving Bactofight DS Oral Suspension when symptoms subside?
No, do not discontinue this medication unless the full course of treatment is completed. Even if you perceive improvement in symptoms, there is a chance the infection might not be fully cured. Continuing the medicine for the full duration is essential as it may still provide beneficial effects.
Can Bactofight DS Oral Suspension cause diarrhea?
Yes, Bactofight DS Oral Suspension can lead to diarrhea. This is a common side effect of antibiotics, which kill harmful bacteria in the body. In addition to this, the medication may also affect the beneficial bacteria residing in your child's stomach and trigger diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink fluids like water or other beverages if they experience diarrhea. If the diarrhea persists and you notice any signs of dehydration (e.g., decreased urine frequency, dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult a doctor before giving any additional medication.
Does all viral common colds invariably result in secondary bacterial infection?
Generally, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, administering antibiotics in viral infection can increase your child's risk of side effects. Consult a medical professional before prescribing antibiotics for any potential bacterial infection.
My child has yellow-green mucus coming out of their nose; is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate a bacterial infection. During common colds, mucus may thicken and change color to yellow or green. Symptoms typically last for 7-10 days.
What is an indication of immediate medical attention needed for my child?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal distress (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting). While rare, these side effects require prompt medical attention.
