Stop Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

How it works

Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet is an antibiotic. It has two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Frequently asked questions

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet?

Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet may interact with other medications or substances. It is important to inform your child’s doctor about all the medications they are taking before starting Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet and ask for guidance on potential interactions. Additionally, always check with your child's doctor before giving any medication to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet?

In general, antibiotics do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines and are unlikely to cause a negative reaction. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive vaccinations until they have fully recovered from their illness. Once your child feels better, you can schedule the vaccination as per your doctor's guidance.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet on a long-term basis?

A healthcare professional may periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to assess the effect of Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet over time, especially during prolonged therapy.

Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet to my child?

Giving an increased dose of this medication could lead to potential side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult with their doctor for reassessment.

Can I stop giving Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet to my child when the symptoms are relieved?

No, do not stop giving this medication to your child unless the complete course of treatment is completed. Even if you feel better, symptoms may improve before the infection is fully eradicated. Therefore, continue taking the medicine as prescribed until the full course is over.

Can the use of Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet cause diarrhea?

Yes, Bactoclav DS 400mg/57mg Tablet may cause diarrhea. This is due to its effects on harmful bacteria and its impact on beneficial bacteria in the child’s stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water or other fluids if they experience diarrhea. Consult a doctor if it persists and notice signs of dehydration such as reduced urination, dark urine, and strong-smelling urine. Do not give any other medication to your child without consulting a doctor.

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?

While antibiotics are not typically necessary for most viral colds, they should be used only after consultation with a healthcare professional. Antibiotics should not be given unless there is a confirmed bacterial infection.

The mucus coming out of my child's nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose during a common cold is usually expected and does not always indicate a bacterial infection. It's normal for mucus to thicken and change color during this time, and symptoms typically last 7-10 days.

Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?

You should contact your child's doctor right away if they experience severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing or skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (severe diarrhea), or liver damage (such as weakness, paleness, or vomiting). While rare, these side effects are serious and require the expertise of a medical professional.
