Introduction
Augwin Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Augwin Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Augwin Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Augwin Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Augwin Dry Syrup?
Augwin Dry Syrup may interact with other medications. It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about all other medications or substances your child is taking before starting Augwin Dry Syrup. Consult your child's healthcare provider for any medication administration instructions.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Augwin Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a reaction in a child who has recently received one. However, children undergoing antibiotic therapy should wait to receive a vaccine until they recover from any illness.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Augwin Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Depending on the duration of treatment, your child's doctor might periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to assess their overall health.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Augwin Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dosage than prescribed can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences increased symptoms, contact their doctor for a reevaluation.
Can I stop giving Augwin Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue Augwin Dry Syrup without consulting with your child's doctor until after completing the full course of treatment. Symptoms might improve before the infection is fully eradicated, so continuing the medication may be beneficial.
Can the use of Augwin Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Augwin Dry Syrup can lead to diarrhea. It works by killing harmful bacteria and also affects the helpful bacteria in your child's gut, leading to diarrhea as a side effect. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If it persists or you notice signs of dehydration (dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, less urination frequency), consult your doctor before giving any other medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral infections do not directly lead to secondary bacterial infections. Using antibiotics for a viral infection can increase the risk of side effects and should be done only when prescribed by your child's doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal discharge during a common cold is normal, and does not necessarily indicate a bacterial infection. It's often due to the thickening and changing of mucus as the body fights the virus. Symptoms typically last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These side effects are uncommon but require expert evaluation.
