Frequently asked questions
What is Astacro Plus Ointment used for?
Astacro Plus Ointment is a medication that regulates the immune system. It works by modulating the immune response, primarily decreasing its activity. It is prescribed to treat moderate to severe eczema (atopic dermatitis) in adults who have not responded to or developed side effects from using corticosteroids. In atopic dermatitis, the skin's immune system overreacts and causes inflammation leading to itching, redness, and dryness. Astacro Plus Ointment acts on this abnormal immune response, altering it to relieve skin inflammation and itching.
What are the side effects of Astacro Plus Ointment?
Astacro Plus Ointment, when applied topically, may cause mild to moderate skin irritation, burning sensation, or itching at the application site. These symptoms usually subside within one week of starting treatment. Other common side effects include redness and warmth sensations at the application site, as well as a rash at the application site. Using Astacro Plus Ointment increases the risk of inflamed or infected hair follicles, cold sores, acne, and generalized herpes simplex infections.
Is Astacro Plus Ointment safe?
Compared to other immune-suppressing medications, Astacro Plus Ointment has been found to be a safe and effective short-term treatment for atopic dermatitis. The absorption of Astacro Plus Ointment to the blood is minimal when applied topically, leading to less severity of side effects compared to oral administration.
Does Astacro Plus Ointment have abuse potential?
No, Astacro Plus Ointment does not have abuse potential and is therefore not a controlled substance. Controlled substances have the potential for misuse, so they require permission from authorities and a doctor for use.
