Anchlor-DX Eye Ointment is a combination of two antibiotics (Chloramphenicol and Polymyxin B) and a steroid (Dexamethasone). The antibiotics work by killing the bacteria or stopping their growth. Together they treat your eye infection effectively. The steroid blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that make the eye red, swollen, and itchy.
You have been prescribed Anchlor-DX Eye Ointment for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not use Anchlor-DX Eye Ointment for more than the prescribed duration as it may cause glaucoma or secondary infection. Do not touch the tip to any surface or to your eye to avoid contamination. Do not wear contact lenses until your infection clears up. Throw away any medicine left at the end of the 5 day course.
No, it is essential to complete the full course of treatment as directed by your doctor. Stopping treatment too early may lead to incomplete clearance of the infection.
To maintain potency, keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed. Store it as per the instructions on the packaging or label. Dispose of unused medication responsibly to prevent accidental ingestion by children, pets, or other individuals.
Before using, wash your hands thoroughly and avoid touching the dropper tip. If you wear contact lenses, remove them beforehand. To administer the medicine, gently tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Then, place the specified number of drops or ointment into the pouch.
If you experience excessive application, rinse your eye with plenty of water. In case of persistent irritation despite rinsing, seek immediate medical attention from your doctor.
