Key Information

Short Description

Amist L Oral Suspension is a medication used to treat symptoms of allergy, asthma, and skin allergies in children.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Amist L Oral Suspension is commonly prescribed in children to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes. It may also help in the treatment of asthma and skin allergies.

Directions for Use

Consult your child's doctor for proper dosage and usage instructions.

How it works

Amist L Oral Suspension contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast. Together these two relieve sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic that blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.

Quick Tips

Never combine Amist L Oral Suspension with other cold and flu medicines as that may have side effects. Amist L Oral Suspension helps prevent asthma attacks. Never use it to stop an attack that has already started as it will not help. If you are giving Amist L Oral Suspension to your child for asthma or allergy, you need not give another dose to prevent exercise-induced breathing problems. In case of any confusion, consult your child's doctor as soon as possible. Make sure that you always have enough medicine. Practice self-care tips: Abstain your child from coming in contact with allergens, Encourage your child to wear a face mask and avoid dusty places, Give plenty of fluids as it helps in thinning and loosening the mucus in the lungs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine cough and allergy medicines for my child?

No. Do not mix cough and allergy medications because they usually both contain similar ingredients. Mixing these types of medications may lead to double dosing of active components, potentially causing serious adverse effects.

Can I decrease the dosage of Amist L Oral Suspension on my own if my child shows improvement?

No. Follow the prescribed dose as instructed by your child's doctor. Do not adjust the dosage independently, as this may negatively impact their health. Increasing the dose might cause unwanted side effects such as sedation and depression, while decreasing it or abruptly stopping it may result in rebound exacerbation of symptoms.

How should Amist L Oral Suspension be stored?

Amist L Oral Suspension should be stored at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Furthermore, keep all medications out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental ingestion.

Does Amist L Oral Suspension cause drowsiness in children?

Amist L Oral Suspension may cause mild sedation, which can lead to sleepiness in children. However, it should not be given to induce sleep. Forced sleep could mask underlying sleep disorders such as insomnia.

My child is an athlete and has a sporting event in two days; can I start Amist L Oral Suspension?

No. Please do not start Amist L Oral Suspension without consulting your child's doctor first. It may cause mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness, which could negatively impact their athletic performance. It is best to seek professional advice for the appropriate course of action.

Can I stop taking Amist L Oral Suspension on my own?

No. Stopping medication abruptly may lead to a return of symptoms, especially if taken for an extended period. It is recommended to discontinue this medication gradually under the guidance of your child's doctor.

Does Amist L Oral Suspension have side effects on mood?

Studies show that Amist L Oral Suspension can cause mood disorders, hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shaking, and difficulty controlling bodily movements. Therefore, consult your child's doctor before administering any medication to them.

Can I use Amist L Oral Suspension for treating acute asthma attacks in my child?

Amist L Oral Suspension is intended solely for preventing asthma attacks and should not be used to manage an ongoing attack. Utilize your child's reliever medicine to assist with existing attacks.
