Frequently asked questions
What is Altimic 2500mcg Injection?
Altimic 2500mcg Injection is a solution of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential nutrient that the body needs to produce red blood cells and maintain a healthy nervous system. It also helps release energy from food and utilize Vitamin B11 (folic acid).
Why can't I get sufficient vitamin B12 in my diet?
You can obtain vitamin B12 from sources like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. Vegans or vegetarians may not get adequate vitamin B12 as it is not naturally found in fruits, vegetables, or grains. Therefore, deficiency of vitamin B12 is often observed in people who follow a vegan or vegetarian diet.
What happens if I have vitamin B12 deficiency?
Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, weight loss, and megaloblastic anemia (a condition where red blood cells become larger than normal). It may also cause nerve problems like numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. Other potential symptoms include balance issues, depression, confusion, dementia, memory impairment, mouth or tongue sores.
Is Altimic 2500mcg Injection safe?
Altimic 2500mcg Injection is generally well-tolerated and considered safe. However, in rare cases, some individuals may experience side effects like nausea, diarrhea, anorexia, or rash. If a rash occurs, discontinue taking the medication immediately.
How should Altimic 2500mcg Injection be given?
Altimic 2500mcg Injection can be administered either intravenously (directly into a vein) or intramuscularly (into a muscle). The usual dosage is 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Altimic 2500mcg Injection), and it's typically given three times per week. After two months, the dose is adjusted to 1 ampoule (0.5 mg of Altimic 2500mcg Injection) once every one to three months as part of ongoing maintenance therapy.
What precautions need to be taken when administering Altimic 2500mcg Injection?
When administering Altimic 2500mcg Injection, avoid injecting it at the same site each time. If you experience severe pain or if blood flows back into the syringe, remove the needle and try a different injection site.
