How it works
Altamox Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Altamox Duo Dry Syrup?
Altamox Duo Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. Before starting Altamox Duo Dry Syrup, inform your child's doctor about all other medications they are taking. It is crucial to consult a healthcare professional before giving any medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Altamox Duo Dry Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children after vaccination. However, it is recommended that your child be vaccinated only after recovering from an illness before starting antibiotic treatment. Once your child feels better, they can receive the vaccine.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Altamox Duo Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Regularly monitoring kidney and liver function tests is recommended during prolonged antibiotic treatment to assess your child's overall health status.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Altamox Duo Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving an excessive dose of this medication can significantly increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences a worsening of symptoms, consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Altamox Duo Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Stopping this medication prematurely before completing the full course may be detrimental. The symptoms might improve before complete infection resolution. Therefore, it's essential to continue taking the prescribed dose until the full treatment duration.
Can the use of Altamox Duo Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Altamox Duo Dry Syrup may induce diarrhea due to its antibacterial nature and potential disruption of beneficial bacteria in the child's gut. Encourage your child to drink fluids to prevent dehydration if they experience diarrhea. Consult with a doctor if diarrhea persists or signs of dehydration, such as decreased urination and dark-colored urine with a strong odor, are observed. Do not give your child any medication without consulting their doctor.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral cold infections do not cause bacterial infections in children. It's important to only use antibiotics after consulting with a healthcare professional if a bacterial infection is suspected.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal discharge during a common cold is not necessarily an indication for antibiotics, as this color change is a normal response to the illness. The symptoms typically last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences life-threatening allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), severe gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea and vomiting), or liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting). Though rare, these side effects are potentially serious. Consulting a healthcare professional is essential in such situations.
