Introduction
Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments. You can give Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to your child with or without food. It is better to give it with food as that helps increase absorption and decrease the risk of stomach upset. The doctor may prescribe giving it two to three times a day. Medicine dose depends on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. So, stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed. If your child vomits the medicine within 30 minutes of intake, let the child calm down and repeat the dose. Do not double dose if it's the time for the next dose.

How it works
Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas, clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check 'expiry' before giving Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup?
It is important to consult with your child's doctor about any potential interactions between Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup and other medications. Do not give your child medication without first discussing it with their healthcare provider.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, if your child is taking antibiotics, they should wait to be vaccinated until their infection has cleared up. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, your doctor may order kidney and liver function tests during prolonged treatment with Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to monitor your child's condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to my child?
No, exceeding the recommended dosage can increase the likelihood of unwanted side effects. If your child is experiencing worsened symptoms, it is important to contact your child’s healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Can I stop giving Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue use of this medication unless directed by your child's doctor. The medicine may still be showing beneficial effects even if you feel better, as the infection might not be fully cured.
Can the use of Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Alphomentin Duo Dry Syrup can sometimes cause diarrhea. This is because it helps kill harmful bacteria in the body. In addition to that, it may also affect the helpful bacteria in your child's stomach, causing diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water or other fluids if they experience diarrhea. If the symptoms persist, or you notice any signs of dehydration, such as dark-colored and strong-smelling urine and reduced urination, consult a doctor before giving your child additional medications.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
It is not common for viruses to lead to bacterial infections. Antibiotics should only be used after consulting with your child's healthcare provider when there is a strong indication of bacterial infection.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate a bacterial infection, especially during a common cold. This is often a normal symptom that occurs when your child's body tries to fight off the viral illness.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your child’s doctor immediately if your child experiences severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or signs of liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting). Though rare, these are serious side effects and require immediate medical attention.
