Introduction
Agroflox M Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients, ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Directions for Use
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Agroflox M Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Agroflox M Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help.
How it works
Agroflox M Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.

Frequently asked questions
What are the important conditions I should inform my doctor about before giving Agroflox M Oral Suspension to my child?
You must tell the doctor if your child has a history of heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because Agroflox M Oral Suspension may worsen these conditions and lead to complications.
Can I give Agroflox M Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not combine Agroflox M Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. One of its ingredients can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, causing a disulfiram reaction and leading to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What if I accidentally give an overdose of Agroflox M Oral Suspension?
An extra dose is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you think your child has taken too much, speak to a doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat. Seek medical attention if any of these symptoms occur.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement after taking Agroflox M Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If your child's condition does not improve, it may indicate that Agroflox M Oral Suspension is ineffective against the infection-causing bacteria. Consult your child's doctor, who may prescribe a different antibiotic with higher efficacy or administer one through an IV route (intravenous injection) in the hospital.
Can other medicines be taken at the same time as Agroflox M Oral Suspension?
Agroflox M Oral Suspension can interact with other medicines or substances. Inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting treatment with Agroflox M Oral Suspension. Additionally, consult your child's doctor before giving any medicine to your child.
How should Agroflox M Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Agroflox M Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place away from direct heat and light. Keep it out of children's reach and sight to avoid accidental consumption.
Can my child get vaccinated while on treatment with Agroflox M Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should wait until they recover from the illness before getting vaccinated.
My child has been passing red-brown urine since starting Agroflox M Oral Suspension treatment. Is this normal?
Yes, it is a common side effect of Agroflox M Oral Suspension due to its active ingredient metronidazole. Red-brown urine is not indicative of any disease but will subside once the treatment is completed.
