Key Information

Short Description

Acuclav DS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Syrup

Introduction

Acuclav DS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.

Directions for Use

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.

Safety Information

Side Effects

No common side effects listed

How it works

Acuclav DS Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Acuclav DS Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Acuclav DS Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Acuclav DS Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Acuclav DS Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Acuclav DS Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

It's essential to inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Acuclav DS Syrup. Additionally, consult with their doctor before giving any new medicine to your child.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Acuclav DS Syrup?

Antibiotics like Acuclav DS Syrup usually don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to wait until your child has recovered from the illness before getting vaccinated.

Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Acuclav DS Syrup on a long-term basis?

To monitor kidney and liver function during prolonged therapy with Acuclav DS Syrup, periodic blood tests may be performed by the doctor to keep track of your child's condition.

Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Acuclav DS Syrup to my child?

No, exceeding the recommended dosage of Acuclav DS Syrup can increase the risk of adverse effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult with their doctor for re-evaluation.

Can I stop giving Acuclav DS Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?

Do not discontinue treatment with Acuclav DS Syrup unless the full course is complete, even if symptoms improve. Stopping the medication too early may lead to incomplete treatment and prolonged recovery.

Can the use of Acuclav DS Syrup cause diarrhea?

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?

Most of the time, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics for a viral infection can increase your child's risk of developing side effects. Only use antibiotics after consulting with their doctor.

The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily require antibiotics, as this can be normal during a common cold. Symptoms often last for 7-10 days.

Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?

Call your child's doctor right away if they experience serious allergic reactions (breathing problems, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), and liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These side effects are rare but require immediate attention.
