Frequently asked questions
Can Abtmed 250mg Tablet cure prostate cancer?
Abtmed 250mg Tablet is not a cure for prostate cancer but helps manage and prolong life in patients with advanced disease. It also may reduce the frequency of fractures and lessen pain experienced by individuals with prostate cancer, while other treatments are provided. However, it's important to understand that its effects on cancer progression are complex and require careful management by your doctor.
Is Abtmed 250mg Tablet a chemotherapy drug?
Abtmed 250mg Tablet is a hormonal therapy, not chemotherapy. It targets the production of testosterone in men with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of their bodies. This hormone disruption slows down the growth of prostate cancer cells.
Why do I need to take prednisolone with Abtmed 250mg Tablet?
Your doctor will prescribe both prednisolone and Abtmed 250mg Tablet together. This combination reduces the risk of developing high blood pressure, fluid retention (excess water in your body), and potassium imbalance. These are potential side effects that may occur as a result of taking Abtmed 250mg Tablet alone.
Does Abtmed 250mg Tablet affect the liver?
Abtmed 250mg Tablet has the potential to cause severe liver problems. In rare cases, it can even lead to acute liver failure (when your liver function shuts down) and pose a serious threat to life. If you experience symptoms like yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of urine, or severe nausea and vomiting, immediately report these changes to your doctor as they could indicate potential liver problems.
How frequently should liver investigations be done?
Before starting treatment with Abtmed 250mg Tablet, your liver enzymes should be measured. The frequency of monitoring is determined by individual needs and doctor's orders: Initially, every two weeks for the first three months into treatment, followed by monthly monitoring thereafter.
How to take Abtmed 250mg Tablet?
Abtmed 250mg Tablet should be taken on an empty stomach with water at least one hour before or two hours after eating. Taking it with food can affect the levels of the medication in your blood, potentially leading to harm. Always remember not to crush or chew the tablet.
