Abstet Tablet is used in the treatment of cancer of the prostate gland.
Tablet
Abstet Tablet is used in the treatment of cancer of the prostate gland. It may be also used to treat other conditions, as determined by the doctor. It is sometimes used with certain other medicines as part of combination chemotherapy.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Abstet Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Abstet Tablet is an anticancer medication. It works by preventing androgen (male hormone) production in man. This is done by inhibiting an enzyme (CYP17) that is responsible for the production of androgen. This is how it slows down the growth of prostate cancer.
Treats prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Usually taken with another medicine called prednisolone to reduce unwanted side effects. Must be taken on an empty stomach. Always use effective birth control measures to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine. Your doctor may regularly monitor your liver function, blood pressure, and the level of potassium in your blood while you are having treatment with this medicine.
Abstet Tablet is not a cure for prostate cancer, but it helps prolong and improve life expectancy in patients with advanced prostate cancer. Additionally, Abset Tablet may reduce the frequency of fractures and decrease pain levels compared to individuals who are not taking this medication. However, it's crucial to remember that Abstet Tablet alone does not cure cancer.
Abstet Tablet is a hormonal therapy, not a chemotherapy drug. It's used for adult men with prostate cancer that has spread and targets the production of testosterone to slow down its growth. This medication impacts hormone levels.
Your doctor prescribes prednisolone alongside Abstet Tablet to manage potential side effects like high blood pressure, fluid retention (water buildup in the body), or reduced potassium levels. This combination minimizes these risks, which might occur due to Abset Tablet.
Abstet Tablet can cause severe liver problems. In rare cases, it may even lead to liver failure (called acute liver failure), which can be life-threatening. If you experience symptoms like yellowing of skin or eyes, darkening of urine, or severe nausea or vomiting, consult your doctor immediately as they might indicate potential liver issues.
Before starting treatment, assess your liver enzymes. Subsequent liver enzyme monitoring is required every two weeks during the first three months of treatment and then monthly thereafter. If you develop any symptoms or signs suggestive of liver problems (e.g., jaundice, dark urine, severe nausea/vomiting), seek medical attention immediately for immediate testing.
Abstet tablet should be taken on an empty stomach with water at least one hour before or after a meal. Taking it with food can lead to varied and potentially higher levels of the medication in your bloodstream, increasing the risk of harm.
