Is Abisam 250mg Tablet a chemotherapy drug?
Abisam 250mg Tablet is not a chemotherapy drug. It's a hormonal treatment for men with advanced prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Abisam 250mg Tablet works by stopping your body from making testosterone, which can slow down the growth of prostate cancer.
Why do I need to take prednisolone with Abisam 250mg Tablet?
Your doctor will prescribe prednisolone in combination with Abisam 250mg Tablet. This combination lowers the risk of developing high blood pressure, fluid retention (excess water in your body), and reduced levels of potassium in your blood, which can occur from taking Abisam 250mg Tablet alone.
Does Abisam 250mg Tablet affect the liver?
Abisam 250mg Tablet can cause serious liver problems. In rare cases, it may even lead to liver failure (acute liver failure) and potential death. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms like yellowing of your skin or eyes, darkening of your urine, or severe nausea or vomiting.
How frequently should the liver investigations be done?
Before starting treatment with Abisam 250mg Tablet, a liver function test (liver enzymes) should be performed. Regular liver enzyme tests are required for the first three months of treatment: every two weeks; then monthly thereafter.
